Tegallalang Rice Terrace

Attraction: Tegallalang Rice Terrace

Bali may be famous for its beaches, but its gorgeous rice terraces are also a major draw for tourists. The neat arrangement of rice fields on the terraces create a beautiful view of nature that is serene and breathtaking. These attractive rice terraces can be found all over Bali but here some of the best rice terraces we’ve discovered.

1. Best rice fields in Ubud and Bali

Rice fields are a common feature in the Island of Gods with Jatiluwih Rice Terrace located in Tabanan and Antosari Rice Field just outside of Bali.

Ubud’s most popular rice terrace is the Tegallalang Rice Terrace, which was featured in the Hollywood movie ‘Eat Pray Love’. A charming natural landscape located 600 metres above sea level, visitors enjoy the refreshing cool air and the rustic vibe that is truly Balinese. The outskirts of the area is also littered with hotels and cafes which give a panoramic view of the rice fields—a great way to relax and take in the natural landscape.

The rice fields near Campuhan Ridge and Subak Sok Wayah can also attract a crowd, especially in the evening when the sunset casts a warm glow on the fields.

2. Ubud rice fields walk / tour

Tegallalang Rice Terrace is a rice fields walk not to be missed. The best time to visit is in the morning to avoid the throng of tour buses that arrive at around 10am or 11am. If you can make it for sunrise, you’ll be promised a magical spectacle in the sky against the rustic landscape. There is an entrance fee of 10,000 Rp but that’s a small price to pay for a relaxing retreat away from the hustle and bustle of the town.

The Campuhan Ridge Walk is a lovely stroll in the countryside where you can stumble upon villagers going about their day and doing their regular chores. To get there, follow the signs to Ibah Hotel from the main road, Jl. Raya Ubud, pass the parking lot, and take a left before going down to the river. You will reach Karsa Kafe that has a magnificent view of the rice terrace.

To get to Subak Sok Wayah, take the uphill path to a narrow alley before the entrance to Campuhan Ridge. Stroll down the winding trail which are lined with rice fields, cafes and souvenir shops. Hang around for sunset by chilling at Cafe Pomegranate or Sari Organik—it’s definitely worth the wait!
